Who knew there was a Russian counterpart to YouTube known as RuTube?! Not to be confused with Scooby Doo's YouTube: RubyRubyRuTube. Bad joke. Sorry. Well, it's your lucky day, because there is! And even more exciting is this gorgeous video from a rehearsal for the Kings of Dance program currently being performed by a few familiar New York faces: David Hallberg and Jose Carreno of ABT, Joaquin de Luz of New York City Ballet, and (a not so familiar) Nikolay Tsiskaridze of the Bolshoi. It's rare to see four men dance together with such lyricism, and watching this clip of (what I believe is) Chris Wheeldon's For 4 makes me wish I could journey to Siberia to see the whole thing!
Matt--thanks for this. Finally, finally, FINALLY I get to see David dance, a little. He is more lovely than I could even make him in my mind's eye, and that choreography is wonderful. Deb

This is a real treat! I can identify David and Jose, but which one is the Russian? The guy in the white socks, or the shorter fellow? David is an absolutely fabulous dancer, but unless ABT comes to Utah, or I go to NY, I will most likely never get to see him perform IRL. Thank god for the Internet and snippets like this, or I'd miss out entirely. Thanks, Matthew.

This is beautiful. It reminds me of a piece that my dance writing class just watched the other week. I don't know if you've heard of it but it's Nacho Duato's "Remanso". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=af5ZouKz78M That's a link to the first part of it, it's a little hard to see but it's beautiful. I fell in love with it. I'm not used to seeing ballets that don't use women at all. And it came as a welcome change to see the male form used so delicately and beautifully.

Beautiful, thanks for posting! Is the music Schubert's Death and the Maiden?

Hey Matt,
Congrats on becoming a professional photographer for such papers as the NYT. Very cool indeed!
Yes, the cor. in the clip was very lovely as were all of the dancers. I preferred the way that the cor. seemed to highlight the way that both David and Joaquin move; it seemed natural. Of course, maybe they just picked up the cor. faster than than Jose or Nikolay. For those who like lyrical male dancing, check out Lars Lubovitch
Dance Company's "Mens Stories." Mr Lubovitch likes to feature male pas des deux and larger groupings as well in some of his work. The company is currently on tour celebrating it's 40th year and features some of the finest dancers and cor. that I've ever seen.
