Keigwin + Company: "EXIT"

After all the promo shots in studios (and bars), Keigwin + Company took it to the stage for the world premiere of Exit today at the Joyce Theater.  Here are a few shots from the dress rehearsal.  Pick up your tickets now!  (Featuring dancers Liz Riga, Kristina Hanna, Ryoji Sasomoto, Aaron Carr, Matthew Baker, Ashley Browne, and Gary Schaufeld. RUN! RUN! RUN!

All I can say is that Larry Keigwin's "Runaway" is not only one of my favorite things I've ever photographed, but also one of my favorite pieces I've seen in a long, long time.  It closes out his superb Joyce Theater season (going on this week) and it gets the pulse racing!  Be sure to grab a ticket and experience it for yourself.  More pictures coming soon! 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Walk. Run. Jump.

I recently had the chance to shoot Larry Keigwin's new piece that was commissioned for the Guggenheim's fantastic Works & Process series.  This program was particularly enthralling because both Larry and Peter Quanz (who I had the pleasure of working with several times during my years at ABT) were asked to choreograph to the same piece of Steve Reich music.  Their creations couldn't have been more different; Peter's a more classical approach for dancers from Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and Larry's a practical marathon that found the dancers running circles around the theater.  Perhaps most exciting was the fact that even though the audience heard the same 25-minute piece of music back-to-back, it seemed like a completely different score on each viewing.  Here's hoping the Guggenheim makes this dual choreographer idea into frequent evening. 

Come to the Kabaret

Meine Damen und Herren, Mesdames et Messieurs, Ladies and Gentlemen!  There are only two shows left of the delectable Keigwin Kabaret at Symphony Space, and I promise you don't want to miss out.  For those of you who have been reading my blog over the past three years, it isn't exactly news that Larry is one of my favorite choreographers.  And this show is no exception.  It's a mix of burlesque, modern dance, comedy and so much more.  So if you're looking for something to do tonight or tomorrow, head to Symphony Space and check out the show!  If you're there tonight, you just may see me running around with my camera!  But first: here are some shots I took backstage last week!
